Good Omens
I was fortunate to come across Good Omens early in my adult life. I'm not exactly certain how I came to own the book, but it's become my most-recommended to everyone I've known. If you grew up inundated by western culture and could use a few good laughs, this is absolutely a tale for you.
Hyperbole and a Half
This is easily one of the most strangely relatable comics I've ever had the good fortune to come across. Allie Brosh's intentionally-goofy illustrations belie some of the more serious topics addressed, from raising dogs to coping with depression. Those of us that grew up on webcomics and memes probably recognize her work already.
Ender's Game
Ender's Game was the first science fiction novel I can remember reading. It's received a few notable awards for good reason; the book's plot has managed to stay relevant for over 30 years. I tend to view it as a precursor to many of the dystopian YA novels I not-so-secretly love.
